A case of Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma following Hodgkin’s lymphoma

Abstract

|
It is rare that two different histologic types of lymphoma develop in the same person. Composite lymphoma is defined as 2 distinctly demarcated types of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) or its rare association with Hodgkin’s lymphoma (HL) within a single organ or tissue. Discordant lymphoma is defined as 2 types of NHL or the rare association of HL with NHL at different anatomic sites in the same patient. Sequential lymphoma is defined as 2 different types of lymphoma occurring in the same person sequentially. A 48 year-old woman had been diagnosed with HL at the left neck 26 months ago and she was treated with chemotherapy and local radiotherapy; she then re- visited our hospital with a recurred neck mass. An excisional biopsy was performed and the pathologic diagnosis was NHL of the diffuse large B-cell type. She underwent 3 rounds of chemotherapy (Rituximab+ESHAP) and also autologous stem cell transplantation. Until now, she has not had any evidence of lymphoma recurrence. This might be the first sequential lymphoma case in Korea. However, the possibility of a secondary malignancy cannot be excluded.(Korean J Med 71:S1105-S1111, 2006)
